About Eric D. Rose
Born in Nassau, The Bahamas, Eric Demond Rose studied mass communications and journalism at The College of The Bahamas (COB); print journalism at Clark Atlanta University (serving as “The Panther” newspaper's award-winning Editor-in-Chief); and recently attained an International Masters in International Communications at the Communications University of China -- serving as Class Monitor-President and representing the Caribbean throughout China.
He received The Bahamas’ National Youth Achievement Award in 1992 and the COB Caribfest Award for Excellence in Literature in 1994. Eric also flew to Washington, D.C., as a teenager to appear as a guest on the American cable network Black Entertainment Television's (BET) “Teen Summit”, the first Bahamian to appear on that programme.
He was a part of the COB 1994 Photography Exhibition, at the Pink 'Un Gallery, Nassau (arranged by Margaret Guillaume), third-place runner-up in the Baha Mar Art Competition (circa 2007), and the only photographer in 2017's Central Bank of The Bahamas 34th Annual Art Competition and Exhibition, taking part again in 2018 and 2021.
The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas chose seven of Eric's black and white fine-art prints to be a part of the National Exhibition 9 (NE9) in 2018. He also holds the distinction of being the first foreigner to obtain the 影事聚 (Ying Shi Ju) Still-Life Photography Award, in Beijing, China, with his work being briefly displayed digitally, during the ceremony, at the Advertising Museum of China.
Most recently, Eric was a triple-trophy Honours winner in the 2021 E. Clement National Arts Festival; and won the top award for Photography, with fine-art capture of the iconic Hermitage, on Cat Island, in The Bahamas.
The Tribune's Weekend Magazine also featured an article with scenery photos in the April 1, 2021 issue, his photo on the cover and a feature on the back page (May 22, 2020); and a number of his images were a part of the international "Shizen: Eye on Bahamas" eZine (Spring 2020 Issue), as well as the Bahamasair In-flight magazine "Up and Away".
Eric and his wife, Gina, have a blended family of two children, Antonio Carlos and Emily Summer.
Eric is also a cultural journalist, stage actor, and author, who shares his poetry in regional anthologies and at festivals, representing The Bahamas at two Caribbean Festival of the Arts (Carifesta). Interestingly, a number of his fine-art scenery photographs are continually appearing in various calendars and promotional campaigns throughout The Bahamas.
